For permitted sites that take waste in

Digital Waste Tracking is the law now

Since 1 October 2026, tips, transfer stations and recycling centres in England and Wales must record every load they take in and file it to DEFRA digitally, within 2 working days (Northern Ireland and Scotland follow in January 2027). ComplyWaste does it in one entry at the gate — capture free, and switch on automatic filing to DEFRA whenever you're ready.

Receiving sites in England & Wales must record waste digitally now (Northern Ireland & Scotland: January 2027). The easy way to be compliant.

What actually changes

Record what arrives — once, at the gate

You don't need to learn the government system or wrestle a portal. Record a load the way you already think about it — who brought it, what it is, how much — and ComplyWaste stores it in exactly the format DEFRA needs and (on a paid plan) files it for you automatically.

1

Log the load at the gate

One entry when a load arrives — carrier, waste, weight. Plain and quick.

2

Checked & stored, DEFRA-ready

We validate it against DEFRA's own rules and store it in their exact format — so nothing bounces.

3

Filed to DEFRA automatically

On the Site plan, every load is filed to DEFRA the moment you record it — and matched to the carrier's record before DEFRA checks.

Capture is free. Filing is the plan.

The carrier's record and yours, matched

Since October 2026 DEFRA links each load's carrier record and receiver record and checks they agree. When a carrier you receive from is also on ComplyWaste, they hand you a short code — you enter it once, and both sides show Matched ✓ automatically. No arguing at the gate, no chasing paperwork.

The waste passport

One clean record of the whole journey

When both sides of a load are on ComplyWaste, you get its waste passport — the full chain of custody in one place: who produced it, the carrier's transfer note, your receipt, whether the two sides matched, and the DEFRA Waste Tracking ID. Download it as a PDF to hand a client, an auditor or your insurer — proof the whole chain adds up, on one page.
