HP 11

Mutagenic

Hazardous property HP 11

Waste that can cause permanent changes in genetic material (mutations).

What does HP 11 mean?

HP 11 (Mutagenic) is one of the 15 hazardous property (HP) codes used to describe why a waste is hazardous. Where an EWC code says what a waste is, HP codes classify the danger it poses. When you record hazardous waste — on a consignment note or in the Digital Waste Tracking service — you give both the hazardous EWC code (marked with an asterisk) and the HP codes that apply.

Hazardous waste (an EWC code ending in *) must move on a hazardous waste consignment note, kept for at least 3 years — not an ordinary waste transfer note.
